After losing last night’s game to the Mumbai Indians, there seems to be more bad news in store for Rising Pune Supergiants. The team’s star foreign recruit, Australian skipper, Steve Smith has been ruled out of the tournament with a wrist injury. Smith’s departure adds to Pune’s growing number of injury concerns, with three of its other foreign players already out of the competition owing to injury.

Cricket Australia said Smith had laboured due to pain in his right wrist for the past week while playing for Rising Pune Supergiants’ in the Twenty20 tournament.

“From the information we have so far, this doesn’t appear to be a serious injury but we are keen to give him the time to recover and rehabilitate before heading to the West Indies at the end of May,” CA said in a statement on Monday.

This news will come as a huge setback for Pune as Smith was in sublime form and was key to his team making a fight out of this season.

Pune’s next assignment is in Delhi on Thursday against the Daredevils and the squad will be bearing a depleted look with four missing foreign recruits. No replacement has been named yet.
