  • Decision maker: Ranjib Biswal (l) will decide if IPL matches will be played in the UAE.

The Indian Premier League chairman Ranjib Biswal indicated a majority of the Twenty20 league matches this season will be held in the country.

Though a final call on the venues and the dates will be taken in a couple of days, UAE continues to be in the fray as an overseas venue alongwith South Africa and Bangladesh.

India’s Election Commission announced the dates of the federal elections – April 7 to May 16 – on Wednesday morning, following which the BCCI top brass met in Delhi to discuss the IPL venues and schedule.

“Today, we discussed about foreign venues but we haven’t decided yet as we need couple of days more to finalise the offshore venue," said Biswal.

“Now that the elections dates have been finalised, we are working towards hosting bulk of the matches in India. Since it is the Indian Premier League, we need to accommodate as many matches in India.”

The IPL 7 window is set between April 9 and June 3.
