  • On the cheap: Abu Dhabi cricket fans will be delighted by news of cheaper IPL tickets.

Cricket fans attending Indian Premier League (IPL) matches in Abu Dhabi are in for a treat with ticket prices reduced for matches held in the city.

As the countdown begins to the IPL 7, organisers have made sure that UAE cricket-lovers enjoy the best of live action throughout by pricing the tickets at a reasonable rate, aimed at enticing as many people as possible into the stadiums on matchday.

In Abu Dhabi, the cost of tickets will be 10 to 20 percent cheaper than usual at the Zayed Cricket Stadium.

Tickets for the grass mounds are expected to be AED 20 only instead of the regular AED 30 for weekday matches, while weekends and double-header days are expected to be between AED 24-36.

Among the seated areas, the North Stand will be priced at around AED 40 while a ticket for the lower South Grandstand is expected to set you back around AED 60.

Panoramic Stand tickets start at AED 80 and rise to AED 100.

The news comes after BCCI officials spent the weekend gave a glowing assessment of the UAE's facilities after studying the pitches, outfields and all other areas of the stadia to be used during the IPL.

The BCCI team, comprising Dr MV Sridhar, GM – Cricket Operations, and PR Vishwanathan, Curator, visited the venues – Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Dubai International Stadium and Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

“We are very happy with the facilities at the venues that will be hosting the UAE leg of the Pepsi IPL 2014,” said Sridhar. “The infrastructure is on par with any of the leading international venues. Considering the amount of cricket that has been played at these venues in the recent past, the ground and pitch maintenance is noteworthy.

“We are confident that the facilities and ground conditions will provide the platform for an exciting first leg of the Pepsi IPL 2014.”

More BCCI officials are scheduled to visit the venues in the first week of April before the IPL begins in the UAE on the 16 of next month.

A total of 20 games will be hosted in the Emirates with reigning champions Mumbai Indians going head-to-head with 2012 winners Kolkata Knight Riders in the first fixture at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in the capital.

By April 30, Dubai and Abu Dhabi would have hosted seven matches each, while Sharjah will host six of the games.
