  • Losing the plot: Kieron Pollard.

Mumbai Indians’ superstar Kieron Pollard was at a loss for words trying to explain what was going wrong with the defending champions campaign in the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League.

After yet another below-par batting performance saw them lose Sunday’s match to Delhi Daredevils by six wickets, Pollard said the side was looking forward to ending their UAE leg on a winning note when they take on Hyderabad on Wednesday, and try and build a momentum from there.

“It’s difficult. After four games, when you look at them, in one we didn’t get a good start, in one we got a good start, in the third we were in it till the 16th over, and today we lost wickets again," said Pollard, who top-scored for Mumbai with an unbeaten 33 in 30 balls.

“So, it’s a matter of getting the right pieces of the puzzle together and I know that the guys are trying hard, working really hard. Sometimes these things happen. In cricket, some team has to lose and some team has to win. It’s unfortunate that we are losing and we are the defending champions.

“So, we will have to take a good look at ourselves and see what’s the best way. We have one more game in Dubai and if we can get a win, it might just boost the confidence in the dressing room and on to Wankhede (Stadium in Mumbai), where we have been quite comfortable.

“We tried everything. Batting positions have been changed. If you look at Hussey, he opened for us and went down today, Corey Anderson went in at three. We are trying different things, it’s just not working. This is what we need to do, try things to get the right combination. Hopefully, things will turn around.”

Delhi bowler Shahzad Nadeem said: “It was a good match for the team, an energy booster. We didn’t do well at the start, but after KP came in, we started building up. We lost the last game, but we played well and we are playing the way Delhi should play.

“We got the early wickets and the pressure was on them. I don’t think the wicket was much different. It was the same as the last time.”
