  • Kings XI Punjab’s Manan Vohra believes the presence of big hitters Virender Sehwag, Glenn Maxwell and David Miller in the side allows youngsters like him to play freely.

The 20-year-old Vohra, one of the promising Indian batsmen featuring in the Indian Premier League, justified that billing while playing his first match of the season last week. He smashed 47 runs off 20 balls as Punjab chased down Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 205 with ease.

Vohra said: “By having players like them (Sehwag, Maxwell and Miller), the job for the youngsters becomes a lot easier. There is no pressure on us to perform since we know they will cover up and score at a brisk pace.

“We have just been asked to go and enjoy ourselves on a given day, which helps us to do well.”

Manan’s focus, though, is to make a mark in the longer format, the Tests. “I enjoy playing the longest format of the game. I am still young and I would want improve my technique and get accustomed to the Test style of playing.”

Punjab, who lead the standings with 16 points, will be hoping to extend that tally when they take on the bottom-placed Delhi Daredevils tonight.
