Delhi Daredevils wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock will miss the 2017 edition of the Indian Premier League [IPL] due to an injury on his right index finger.

This will come as a big blow to the Delhi Daredevils as another one of their big overseas stars, JP Duminy, had also announced earlier this week that he will sit out of the IPL this season.

South Africa have a busy schedule ahead of them after the IPL, with the ICC Champions Trophy and a tour to England scheduled right after the end of the franchise-based T20 league. With de Kock being a crucial member of the Proteas team, Cricket South Africa want him fully fit for those commitments.

The 24-year-old, though, will play the third Test against New Zealand which begins at Hamilton on Saturday. South Africa go into the match with a 1-0 lead and will be aiming to complete another away Test series victory, having beaten Australia in Australia in late 2016.

De Kock had a very good season in the IPL in 2016 – scoring 445 runs at an average of 37.08 and a strike-rate of 136.08, including one century against the Royal Challengers Bangalore [RCB].

The IPL begins on April 5, with the Daredevils scheduled to begin their campaign against RCB in Bengaluru on April 8.
