  • Liam Plunkett was in superb form with the ball

The Delhi Daredevils fell to their fifth loss in six games as they failed to chase down a humble target of 144, set by the Chris Gayle-less Kings XI Punjab, and now prop up the bottom of the table.

    Here are our player ratings:

    DELHI DAREDEVILS

Prithvi Shaw – 6: (22 off 10) 18-year-old dropped an absolute sitter off David Miller, but redeemed himself a little with 22 including a sizzling square cut off Barinder Sran before getting castled by Rajpoot after a wild swoosh.

Gautam Gambhir (capt) – 3: (4 off 13) Loopy bowling change bringing on Amit Mishra when Dan Christian and Liam Plunkett had Kings XI all tied up, disappointing with the bat and then gave a leading edge off Andrew Tye which ballooned to mid-off. Has just 85 runs now in the tournament at an average of 17.

Glenn Maxwell – 5: (12 off 10, 0-4 from 1 over) Other batsmen would have smashed his gentle offspin but he got off easy, dropped a regulation chance off Miller, came in at No3 and struck the ball sweetly until caught on the fence by Andrew Tye off Rajpoot.

Shreyas Iyer – 8: (57 off 45) Delighted to hold on to catch from Karun Nair after a juggle. Played a lone hand with the bat, including some stunning boundaries off Sran, that almost got Delhi home. Caught on the boundary by Aaron Finch on final ball.

Rishabh Pant – 5: (4 off 7) No shame in being dismissed by Mujeeb’s stunning first ball, started cautiously and was just getting into his stride.

Dan Christian – 6:  (6 off 11, 1-17 from 3 overs) Got the most out of the pitch with a tidy spell, formed good bowling partnership with Plunkett, run out at a crucial stage as he attempted a risky second.

Rahul Tewatia – 7: (24 off 21, 0-6 from 1 over) Supported Shreyas well as the Daredevils fought themselves back into the game, but will be disappointed to lose his wicket just when Delhi were getting back within reach.

Liam Plunkett – 8: (0 off 1, 3-17 from 4 overs) Superb debut. Got Lokesh Rahul with one that bounced a little, and then started bending the ball away from the right handers, knocked over Mayank Agarwal with a straight one, and had Nair caught on the fence. Took a good catch to dismiss Miller as well. Out first ball with the bat.

Amit Mishra – 6: (1 off 2, 0-33 from 4 overs): Bowled well in first three overs, with spin and bounce, then lost it in final over after Shaw’s appalling drop catch and went for 16 runs to inflate figures.

Avesh Kkan – 7: (2-36 from 4 overs) Superb opening spell, lively pace and bounce had Rahul and Finch both searching, finished off just as well knocking over Yuvraj Singh; good catch of Rahul off Plunkett.

Trent Boult – 7: (2-21 from 3 overs) Classy stuff from the Kiwi catching-star. Tight opening over went for just four, but loose second over carted for 14, brought back to bowl final over and dismissed Ravi Ashwin and Sran to wrap things up.
