  • The 17-year-old will take part in the T20I clash on May 31.

Delhi Daredevils host Rajasthan Royals in what is more or less a do-or-die clash in the IPL on Wednesday.

The Daredevils are at the bottom of the table with just two wins from eight games. A defeat today and their chances of making it to the playoffs will all but vanish.

Delhi changed captaincy midway in the IPL with Shreyas Iyer taking over from Gautam Gambhir. With the situation turning desperate, there is a case for Nepali teenage leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane to be given an opportunity.

Lamichhane, 17, is one of the most exciting young talents to emerge last season and the Daredevils snapped him up at IPL auction after organising a special trial for him. However, slotting him in the team will be a challenge as the Daredevils will have to bench either Liam Plunkett or Glenn Maxwell.

Daredevils leg-spinner Rahul Tewatia hasn’t picked up a wicket in his last four games. Iyer could drop him and bring in a seamer like Harshal Patel.
