  • Local hero: MS Dhoni.

Chennai Super Kings are aiming for an improved display in the the second qualifier against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday to make another bid for their third IPL crown.

Chennai, who topped the league standings, missed an opportunity to enter the final when they crashed to a 25-run defeat against Mumbai Indians in the first qualifier on Tuesday.

If they win against Bangalore in Ranchi, Chennai will meet Mumbai again in the title clash on Sunday.

Chennai coach Stephen Fleming while admitting they were not up to the mark against Mumbai felt Friday’s game has given them a chance to fix their shortcomings.

Fleming is also hoping to get the crowd behind his team at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association Stadium in Ranchi, which is the home town of their captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Fleming said: “Victory against Mumbai would have given us a big advantage. The guys are getting pretty tired at this stage of the tournament. So, to get rid of a game and a bit of travel would have been good.

“We are not afforded that luxury and Mumbai will tune up for that final in pretty good shape and we have to dig pretty deep.

“Obviously, I am disappointed not to win against Mumbai, but at the same time I am happy we have another opportunity. “It still wasn’t one of our better games and we have a chance to rectify that in Ranchi which has been good to us. It is the skipper’s home town and it’s an opportunity we relish,” he added.
