  • Masterful innings: Hamish Marshall.

Leo Lions put in a strong display at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday night to finish in the second spot in the Masters Champions League.

The Lions raised 201 for three and then restricted Libra Legends to 190 for six for 11-run victory.

Struggling in the lower half of the table for most part of the tournament, the Lions made a big leap on the back of two successive victories. They will now take on Virgo Super Kings in the second semifinal in Dubai on Friday while table toppers Gemini Arabians will lock horns with Sagittarius Strikers in the first semi-final on Thursday. The final will be on Saturday.

Opener Hamish Marshall (64 off 39 balls) and captain Scott Styris (45 not out off 20 balls) led the run charge for the winners. While Marshall hit six fours and three sixes, Styris smashed five sixes and a four.

Libra Legends made a bold dash to chase down the target but they were pegged back by the fall of wickets. Ryan ten Doeschate (67 off 36 balls) was the top scorer.

Earlier, Super Kings made the semi-final cut with a 12-run victory over the Commanders. Leg-spinner Malinga Bandara (4-16) was the hero as Super Kings superbly defended their total 131 for nine.
