Leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane picked up three wickets as Nepal beat Netherlands by one run to register their maiden win in the format on Friday.

Chasing 217 for victory, the Dutch were well placed at 114-2 before they lost seven wickets for 71 runs. Leg-spinner Lamichhane took 3-41 from his 10-overs to play his part in a famous win.

The last wicket of Paul van Meekeren (12) and Fred Klaassen (13) took the hosts to the final over in Amstelveen, needing six off the last over.

Thereafter, Netherlands needed one run to tie the match but Klaassen was run out by Nepal captain Paras Khadka off his own bowling as cricket’s latest ODI team won by one run. For the hosts, Wesley Barresi top-scored with 71.

Earlier, No8 Sompal Kami top-scored for Nepal with 61 off 46 balls with five fours and three sixes. Captain Khadka made 51 with six fours and two sixes as Nepal recovered from 88-5 to reach 216 all out.

The series ended 1-1 after the Netherlands won the first match at the same venue by 55 runs on Wednesday.
