  • Quetta players celebrate (l) and Kevin Pietersen during his fifty.

Speaking after a second last ball win in a row, Shehzad paid tribute to the work of the Quetta coaching staff and the fun environment that they have created.

“We are playing as a team, we are gelling together and the atmosphere we have in the dressing room is awesome,” shehzad explained.

“Credit goes to the management, Moin Khan and Sir Viv, they are boosting up the team.”

After securing their place in the PSL showpiece, Quetta players and staff broke out in joyous celebration, something Shehzad believes will only serve to improve their team ethos of enjoying their time in the tournament regardless of the outcome on the pitch.

“Win or lose does not matter,” Shehzad explained. “The logo in our dressing room is no grumpy faces at all. We need to laugh whether we win or lose.

“Yes, we learn from our mistakes but make sure we laugh every time and enjoy this sport, which is very important.”

The one-run triumph over Peshawar Zalmi handed Quetta their seventh win from nine games in this year’s PSL and provided yet more momentum in their pursuit of the PSL’s first title.

For Peshawar, they will now face the winner of Saturday’s second qualifier on Sunday in their last chance to reach this year’s final.

Head coach Mohammad Akram is certain that his side will take positives from what was a heartbreaking defeat to Quetta and is pleased with his team’s efforts despite the setback.

“We’ll still be positive, there are lots of positives out of this game,” said Akram.

“We’ll have to work hard to win it and know in Twenty20 cricket it’s anyone’s game and in a couple of overs things can turn around.

“We have a good enough side and we’ve played good enough cricket. I’m really happy with the team so far, they have fought really hard and they’ll do the same when they come back the day after tomorrow.”
