  • Danube extended their dominance rule by winning the Friendship Cup.

Having dominated on the domestic circuit and winning numerous titles, it was no surprise Danube Lions added another – this time the JK UAE Friendship Cup.

Against Simula J&K at the Ajman Oval, Danube were far superior, sealing a 106-run victory in the T20 tournament, organised by Simula Sports Club.

Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Danube set a mammoth target of 171. UAE international and new signing Shaiman Anwar top-scored with 66 runs from just 32 balls.

The 36-year-old showed his brilliance with the bat, smashing six maximums and two boundaries. Team-mates Shamiullah Younis and Mohammad Imran piled on the runs, scoring 47 and 28 respectively as Danube crossed the 160-mark.

Hilal Rather was the standout bowler with two wickets, while Sahil Sharma, Raman Dutta and Sameer Khajuria each took one scalp.

With a huge target set, Simula’s run-chase was always going to be difficult. Rana Dastagir and Zahoor Khan claimed three wickets, while Aamir Hayat took two as Simula scored just 65.

Danube owner, Anis Sajan, said: “It was a very good tournament and the performance of my team was very encouraging.

“This gives us the confidence going forward when we’ll play in more 50-over and T20 competitions.”
