  • Sri Lanka players celebrate their victory.

Openers Dinesh Chandimal (50) and Tillakaratne Dilshan (27) starred as Sri Lanka reached 129 for eight in 20 overs.

Swapnil Patil’s 37 inspired the UAE as they recovered from 16 for four after 3.5 overs to reach 115 for nine at the end of their innings, with Sri Lanka bowler Lasith Malinga taking four wickets.

Earlier, the UAE had performed superbly with the ball as captain Amjad Javed (3-25), Mohammad Shahzad (2-27) and Mohammad Naveed (2-27) restricted Sri Lanka to a fairly modest total.

They struggled with the bat, however, and slipped to 47-6 before Patil led a late recovery to save the UAE from a potentially humiliating defeat.

Up next for the UAE are hosts Bangladesh on Friday.
