Amjad Ali and Zaheer Maqsood delivered with the bat and ball to script United Bank Limited’s eight-wicket victory over Abu Dhabi Gymkhana in the Midcom ADCC President’s Cup final.
Ali smashed 63 as his side knocked off the winning runs with five overs to spare after Maqsood did the damage with 4-18 as Gymkhana were all out for 118 at the Abu Dhabi Ovals. Gymkhana, electing to bat first were given a sound start by Faisal Butt (23) and Ghulam Fareed (14).
They put on 40 for the first wicket before Maqsood provided the breakthrough. A wicket each from Umar Farooq and Mohammed Ayaz, and a second from Maqsood, left Gymkhana suddenly in a bit of a spot at 56 for four and never recovered.
Chasing, UBL lost opener Syed Maqsood (8) early but a 93- run stand for the second wicket between Ali and Babar Hussain set them on course.
Hussain scored 33 off 35, (two fours and a six), before falling to a catch when the score was 93. But Ali was in fine form and continued scoring as UBL reached their target. His 63-run knock came off just 42 balls.
Meanwhile, in the Plate final, Sadaqat Shah produced a fine allround performance to lead White Hunters to a resounding 103-run win over ADNOC Distribution.
