  • Champions: Multiplex players pose with the Al Dhaid Gold Cup trophy.

In the final, Multiplex defeated Ibsons Cricket Club comfortably by seven wickets at the Al Dhaid Cricket Village grounds.

Multiplex were set a tough target of 274 to win, but their opening batsmen Sapandeep Singh and Shukur went about the task in bright fashion.

The openers quickly added 23 runs for the first wicket, with Singh scoring 22 off them in 13 deliveries.

Shukur stood firm at the fall of Singh’s wicket as he kept scoring at will and added a fine 124-run partnership with Mohammad Yasir (57, 50b), and then added 97 runs with Zishan Khan for the fourth wicket to achieve the target in 37th over.

While Shukur scored an unbeaten 129 in 113 balls with the help of 11 boundaries and four sixes, Khan smashed a 28-ball 44 not out, which featured two fours and four sixes.

Earlier, put in to bat first, Ibsons had a disappointing start with two top-order batsmen out for ducks.

Babar Malik (34) and Waseem Baig (22)  gave Ibsons the initial push,  before Faizan Asif (68, 35b, 5×4, 6×6) and Ibrahim Malik (39, 32b) consolidated their position.

However, it was the late heroics of No10 batsman Irfan Sajid that helped them reach a formidable total of 273 for eight in 40 overs.

Irfan smashed three boundaries and four sixes in his 64-run knock. For Multiplex, Qadeer Ahmed claimed four wickets.

Even though the main trophy eluded them, Ibsons picked up all three individual awards. Babar Malik (149 runs) was the Best Batsman, Fayyaz Ahmed (12 wickets) Best Bowler, while Omair Shaukat (76 runs/10 wickets) was adjudged the Player of the Tournament.
