  • Well regarded: Aaqib Javed.

Bangladesh are in talks with former UAE coach Aaqib Javed for the post of Bangladesh’s bowling coach, with board president Nazmul Hassan hoping for a decision in a couple of days.

“We are in touch with Aaqib Javed,” Hassan was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

“Our CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury informed us that we will get an answer from him – yes or no – by day after tomorrow (Tuesday). We are also discussing if we can talk about the alternatives.”

BCB Cricket Operations Committee chairman Akram Khan had earlier revealed they had finalsied four candidates for the job – Sri Lanka’s Champaka Ramanayake and Chaminda Vaas, Aaqib Javed and India’s Venkatesh Prasad.

Javed, who stepped down as the UAE coach in April, is also the director of cricket operations with Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League. The position became vacant after former Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak decided not to extend his contract with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

Speaking to Sport360, Streak had revealed that he decided to leave the Bangladesh job to spend time with his family.

“For me, my time away in conjunction with the IPL (with Gujarat Lions) was too much time away from home. We have got a well established business in Zimbabwe, my kids are well settled and it’s very difficult to move them across to Bangladesh – it’s very difficult for me to spend that much time away. I wasn’t prepared to sacrifice the time I would like to spend with my young family,” Streak said.

According to reports, Streak is interested in taking up the less demanding role of coach at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. And he admitted to be open to the idea.

“I really enjoyed India. It is a lovely place – some of the bigger cities like Kolkata, Mumbai, Bengaluru in particular were some enjoyable places. And somewhere in the future I can see myself doing work in India.”
