  • Reign supreme: Legends team.

Mohammed Tariq’s four-wicket haul went in vain as Saqib Azeem stole the show with a half-century to guide Legends to title victory.

In the second edition of the Alliance Night Bash T20 league, Azeem was in fine form with the bat, hitting two sixes and five boundaries off 38 balls in his 53-run knock as Legends successfully chased Global Distribution’s 182 with three wickets to spare.

Defeat was hard to swallow for Global, who were in a strong position to claim the trophy after Tariq’s outstanding spell (4-35) and Qasim Butt’s half-century (61).

Having won the toss and opting the bat first, Legends’ bowling unit were on top with Muhammed Ashfaq taking two wickets, while Ajmal Masahir, Saqib Azeem, Zohaib Sajjad all claimed one scalp each.

Chasing, Legends openers Azeem and Abdul Basith gave their team a perfect start with the run-rate at 10 an over. But Basith was sent back to the pavilion with a knock of 41.

Azeem kept the scoreboard ticking as he and Tasdeeq Hussain put on a partnership of 50 runs.

Azeem was the next man to be removed, trapped lbw by Tariq, who claimed another three wickets. But knocks from Hussain (49) and Azeem set the platform, and despite seeing their middle-order batsmen fail, it was wicketkeeper Sharafudeen Moosa (2no) and Sajjad Malok (9no), who saw them home.

Hussain and Azeem shared the Man of the Match award.
