  • Top scorer: Tamim Iqbal hit seven boundaries during his innings.

Khurram Khan scored an unbeaten 44 but the UAE still suffered a four wicket defeat against Bangladesh as they continued their preparations for the forthcoming Twenty20 World Cup.

Khan’s impressive knock came off 35 balls and included six boundaries, as the UAE posted a total of 142 for 7 from their 20 overs.

The UAE started the defence of their score well, reducing Bangladesh to 17 for 2 and showing signs that an upset maybe on the cards.

However, opener Tamim Iqbal steadied the ship with a knock of 43, allowing all rounder Mahmudullah to complete the run chase with seven balls to spare.

The UAE’s innings had got off to a solid start with Amjad Ali and Faizan Asif scoring a half century between them and coping with conditions at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium.

Khan’s batting then helped the side push on, but a middle order collapse meant the visitors were unable to build on a positive start.

While the UAE’s top three batsmen scored 94 runs, the next five only managed 43.

In response, Bangladesh once again called upon the heroics of Iqbal to see them home after a nervy start.

His 43 runs came off 30 balls and helped give the hosts the foothold in the match they needed.

Mushfiqur Rahim, who finished not out on 27, and Mahmudullah, were then able to combine to see Bangladesh home.

However, there were positives for the UAE in the bowling department, with Manjula Guruge and Amjad Javed both taking two wickets for 25 runs during their four overs.

The UAE will face Nepal on Thursday in their final warm up match, before their first World Twenty20 fixture against the Netherlands in Sylhet on Monday.
