  • Star man: Panesar was in fine form for the MCC.

Monty Panesar was the star of the show for the MCC in Abu Dhabi on day one of their pre-season friendly against Durham, taking five wickets as Durham were bowled out for 248.

Keaton Jennings and Scott Borthwick struck a half century each for Durham but England bowler Panesar claimed five for 63, while Kyle Hogg also impressed, taking four Durham wickets for 35 runs at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

Durham won the toss and elected to bat but they lost opener Mark Stoneman in just the second over as he became victim to Harry Gurney's bowling.

That brought Borthwick (50) to the crease as he and Jennings started to build a strong partnership in the middle before the number three batsman lost his wicket to Panesar three balls after notching his half century as he was caught by Luis Reece.

Top scorer Jennings hit five fours in his 64-run total but was another victim to Panesar in the 64th over when he was stumped by Prasanna Jayawardene.

Gordon Muchall (11) and Paul Coughlin (0) were both out in the 80th over as the wickets started to tumble, leaving Durham on 179 for seven before Chris Rushworth, in at number 11, impressed with 29 but Panesar accounted for him with the last ball of the day.
