  • If you enjoy playing cricket then the G Force Sports Services’ first ever T10 Indoor Premier League competition is here to give you your fix now it is getting too hot to play outdoors.

Played every Friday, starting on June 13 all the way through to July 11, at the World Trade Centre, Sheikh Saeed Halls 1 and 2 in Dubai, 16 teams will battle it out for glory.

And the team who triumphs will claim a handsome Dh3,000 in prize money.

But the winning cheque isn’t the only prize available.

Organisers have lined up awards for man of the match, overall best batsman and bowler, and player of the tournament.

The runners-up will also receive Dh2,000, while all participating teams will take home mementos.

Registration is now open and runs until the end of the month.

And Gopal Jasapara, organiser of the 31-match competition, said there will be new rules to make the games more exciting.

He said: “One of the new rules that we are implementing is that each team must bat for 10 overs. Even if the team has been bowled out, batsmen can return later in the innings until the the full 10 overs is completed. But there is a twist – for each wicket that falls, the team will lose four runs and that adds to the excitement of the game.

“For the bowling team, each player must bowl one over minimum, while two can bowl twice. Any wide delivery or no ball will result in a four-run penalty, while no bouncers will be permitted.”

Each team consists of eight players with a squad of no more than 12. The 16 teams will be split into four groups with a guarantee of three matches for each side.

The top two teams will qualify for the knockout stages which begin with the quarter-finals.

Last year’s competition, won by Phoenix Medicine, was held outdoors at Fairgrounds Oval at Dubai Men’s College.

And Jasapara explained the reasons why the competition will be held indoors.

“The Fairgrounds Oval was a great location for us last year and a lot of good matches were played,” he said. “But with the temperature increasing, we decided to shift the competition to the World Trade Centre.

It’s a great sporting facility and already a number of domestic indoors matches are held there.

“Like T20, the competition will be fun, short and full of action and drama. And anyone who wants to play the game can participate.”

The entry fee is Dh3,000 per team which includes a colour kit.
