  • Big impression: IMG secured a crucial first win in the Ramadan tournament at ICC Academy.

Radio 4 created some sweet music with bat and ball by securing a thumping win in the Ramadan Indoor Cricket Tournament at the ICC Academy.

The broadcasters hammered 113 runs, the highest score of the tournament so far, and then restricted opponents OMD to just nine runs in reply, sealing victory by 104 runs.

And with wins also for holders Danube Lions, IMG, Darjeeling and HSBC, the tournament has got off to a flying start.

Each match is 12 overs per side and sees eight players batting in pairs for three overs each, with five runs deducted every time a wicket falls.

There are 24 teams in action, divided into six pools.

Pool winners go forward to a Super Six stage, which will be followed by two play-off matches with the Grand Final on July 19.

Mohammed picks up three wickets in Yogi victory

Rameez Mohammed bagged his second man of the match award with a three-wicket haul in Yogi Group’s five-wicket win over Seven Seas in Group B of the 2nd Interface Transworld Ramadan Cup 30-over cricket tournament at the Fairground Oval in Dubai.

Put into bat, Seven Seas failed to get a solid start from openers Waqas Ahmed (8) and Gulam Shabbir (11).

Hasnain Raza (15) soon followed suit.

Hamid Ali (17) and Moinudeen then added 43 runs for the fourth wicket with Moinudeen doing the bulk of the scoring.

Hamid’s wicket brought in Mudaser Ibrahim and he and Moinudeen looked like taking the challenge to the Yogi bowlers, but just when they were looking good Moinudeen departed for 29.

Seven Seas were restricted to 170 for 9 in their 30 overs.

In reply, Yogi openers Swapnil Salvi (54) and Shahzad Manna (52) put on 101 runs. After one-down batsman Salman Faris fell for just one, Amjad Gul (22) and Swapnil Patil (25) saw Yogi Group home.

Farooq ton wins the day for Dubai Municipality

Ummer Farooq remained unbeaten on 100 in Dubai Municipality’s 101-run victory over Jashanmal in the 13th Dulsco Ramadan Cricket tournament at Zabeel Park Cricket Ground in Dubai.

Riding on Farooq’s blistering knock, Dubai Municipality put on 181 for 4 in 20 overs and then bowled out Jashanmal for 80 in 16.3 overs.

Dubai Municipality were in trouble with the fall of two quick wickets after deciding to bat first.

Toshif Ashar looked threatening as he hit two sixes in his 16 before being dismissed by Tousif.

The bowler also had Tariq Rasool out one run later.

In trouble at two down for 21, Farooq and Azim Ashraf joined forces to put on 135 runs and rescue Dubai Municipality.

Farooq unleashed some glorious strokes as runs came at a fast pace.

Ashraf also prospered in the company of Farooq, finding gaps with ease and rotating the strike.
