  • The International Cricket Council Academy at Dubai Sports City announced on Tuesday that registrations for the second term of its flagship coaching programme, The Warriors, is now open.

The second term will begin on January 9, 2018. Players that sign up for the 15-week programme will receive a blend of coaching, physical preparation and game-play, under the guidance of ICC Academy’s internationally-qualified Level 3 and Level 4 coaching staff.

In addition, every player will receive a full set of training kit, a workbook, regular feedback from their coaches, eligibility for selection in the Warriors teams and Emerging Player Programme and a 50 per cent off voucher for a 1-1 training session.

ICC Academy head of cricket development and Level 4 coach, Qasim Ali, commented: “The first term of the new season of the Warriors programme has been incredibly successful and we’ve had over 400 players working with our coaches on a weekly basis.

“Our newly-revised player pathway, supported by our newly established, professional coaching staff have truly taken the coaching available at ICC Academy to the next level. We have the best training environment in world cricket and we’re very proud to be able to offer the opportunity for all of our players to experience it, supported by expert cricket coaching.”

Ali added: “Being based at the ICC Academy offers so many opportunities for young players. Our Warriors regularly rub shoulders with world class players and train alongside them, this weekend for example, some of our players were fortunate enough to work with former Rajasthan Royals and current Gujarat Lions batting coach, Monty Desai, another group of players trained at the Dubai International Stadium – we’re always looking to make sure we offer world class experiences and support.”

As part of the ICC Academy’s commitment to developing the next generation of cricket stars, 10 young players were chosen to take part in the International Cricket Council Academy’s player development programme, The Warriors, and were awarded a full, one-year scholarship at the ICC Academy.

This included three training sessions a week at the academy based in Dubai Sports City, full access to its world-class facilities, including the Powerbase gym, and professional coaching and mentoring by highly trained ICC Academy staff.

Selected after two days of trials, which attracted more than 200 youngsters, the 10 developing players aged 13-17 years old have been honing their skills at the world-class facility this past season and will be continuing their development throughout term 2.

Will Kitchen, the ICC Academy manager, summarised what the Warriors programme is all about by saying: “We listen very carefully to what parents and players want from their cricket coaches and from an Academy in general. At the same time, we’re fortunate to be very closely involved in international and professional cricket, including the UAE National Team, who are based full, time at ICC Academy, along with their coaching staff.

“On that basis, we believe our programme offers unrivalled coaching, in a world class environment; we cater for people that play for sheer enjoyment, as well as those that aspire to play professionally, we really are unique on that basis.”

“I expect that Warriors programme to be over-subscribed for Term 2, I think news of the quality of our coaches, coaching and venue has travelled fast, so I’d urge every player that is keen to get the best blend of training, games and support to register early and make sure they are able to enjoy what we have to offer.”

Selected Warriors also got the opportunity to be ball boys at the Pakistan v Sri Lanka matches which took place at the Dubai International Stadium.

The Warriors pathway to success has effectively trained 35 students across the 12, 14, and 16 EPPs and 8 students in the main scholarship programme, showing that the Warriors is more than just a cricket programme.

There’s an early-bird offer to those who register between November 26 to December 24 for ICC Academy Warriors – Term 2 and they will be rewarded with 10 per cent cashback (SCORE).
