  • Jumeirah Mammoths held their nerve to win an enthralling final against NAS as they were crowned champions of the League of Mammoths tournament.

At Dubai Sevens, NAS won the toss and elected to bat but nothing went right as Deepak Patel and Bobby Suri pegged them back with wickets at regular intervals.

By the 12th over, NAS were struggling at 55-6 but Abhay Chavan and Abid Choudhary revived their innings with a 79-run partnership. While Chavan’s run-a-ball 66 was studded with four fours, Choudhary stepped on the gas with a brisk 50 from just 34 balls. The best batsman of the tournament struck five fours and two towering sixes.

Chasing 165, Jumeirah found themselves in a similar position as NAS were when they reeling at 56-6.

It needed Shajil Balan and man of the match Sujit Salian rescue their team. Balan got the ball rolling with 31 runs from 26 balls (2×4) before Sulian and Sheridan Hadfield came together with a 60-run stand.

Hadfield’s 33 turned the game around but it was Salian who remained at the crease until the end with an unbeaten 41 to claim a one-wicket victory.

This was Jumeirah’s second title after finishing runners-up in the first edition and losing out in the league stage in the third edition.
