  • Knowledge is power: In his playing days Kirsten amassed 7,289 runs in 101 Tests for South Africa.

Sachin Tendulkar, Graeme Smith and Kevin Pietersen are just some of the legendary cricketers that Gary Kirsten has worked with during his international and IPL coaching career. And now, the South African will be offering his expertise to budding cricketers and coaches in the UAE when he holds his high-performance clinic in Dubai this month.

Taking place at 7he Sevens in Dubai, the two-day event, in association with ProCoach Middle East, runs November 28-29.

Compromising lectures and practical sessions on different topics including: technique improvement, coping with pressure and chasing targets; Kirsten and his three coaches will work with the students for 12 hours in developing their all-round game to become the stars of tomorrow.

Coaches or parents who want to enhance their knowledge and improve their coaching methods, can get advice and guidance by observing the ex-South Africa and India coach when he works with the students. And Kirsten can’t wait to get involved.

He said: “We want to create a cricketing experience that allows all participants to express themselves as well as encouraging flair, individuality, growth and leadership.”

Jaco Smith of ProCoach Middle East describes the clinic as the benchmark for high quality cricket coaching events in the region.

“We really want to give talented, skilled and dedicated budding cricketers in the UAE a chance to make it big by providing them with coaching opportunities and mentoring from the very best in the business,” he said. “Cricket is more than just a sport. It also imparts values like leadership, teamwork, ethics and integrity.

“It is all about having fun, playing fair and giving it your best effort, and we at ProCoach have made it our mission to offer talented youngsters, coaches and parents a reliable, high-quality resource for expert professional coaching to help athletes develop their strategy, know-how, motivation and accountability required to succeed in their respective disciplines.”

With the clinic limited to 40 students and 15 coaches, Kobus Olivier, who helped bring Kirsten to Dubai, insists it’s an event not to be missed. “It’s a unique opportunity for students to learn the game from one of the greatest cricket coaches in the world,” said Olivier.

“He got to work with some of the world’s best cricketers like Tendulkar and Dravid and guided India to their 2011 World Cup win. He knows what’s required to become one of the best and he will be passing on his knowledge.”

Fees for students, who must be 10-years and above, is Dh6,500, while it’s Dh1,000 for coaches.
