  • Well deserved: Sharjah Cricket Academy are inaugural champions.

Sharjah Cricket Academy were crowned champions of the inaugural DCC Women’s League after a thrilling victory over familiar foes ICC Academy.

After scoring 89 runs at Dubai’s Fairground Ovals, Sharjah defended their total thanks to superb bowling from Subha Srinivasan (2-5) as ICC could only reach 86 in their 20 overs.

It was the second straight win over their opponents, having beaten them by 32 runs in the group stage. But they had to hold their nerve for victory.

After four wickets fell, Chaya Mudgal and Humaira Tasneem did well to revive Sharjah’s batting. Mudgal scored 22 from 26 balls, while Humaira’s 21 put 89 on the board, despite superb bowling from Namita D’Souza and Kyna Vedhasinghe, who took three wickets each.

Chasing a low target, ICC should have reached their total but panic set in and three run-outs proved costly for them.
Roopa Nagaraj fought valiantly with 38 and Vedhasinghe chipped in with 17 but in the end they fell agonisingly close.
