  • Danube Tigers proved that they are not too far behind their counterparts Danube Lions after beating Valtorque by 42 runs to clinch the Winter Cup.

With the rules similar to the outdoor format, each player bowled one over and batted as a pair for two overs.

For each wicket that falls, the batting team loses five points but the batsman can still continue his innings until his allotted two overs are finished.

After being put to bat first, Valtorque could only manage nine runs. Set with a modest total of 10 runs, Danube got off to a poor start with openers Adnan Mufti (-5) and Sheroz Khalid (-9) putting on -14 in the first session.

With a huge deficit, pressure was on Sami Ullah Younis (21) and Rana Dastgir.

But the pair remained composed at the crease. Younis struck 21, while Dastgir hit 10 as Danube roared back.

With 31 runs scored in their session, that set the platform as Ali Afzal (8), Saleem Rahim (9), Muhammad Ajmal (11) and Farhan Ahmad (6) scored the runs which eventually sealed a comfortable victory.

It meant Danube clinched their third title in four months and completes a strong year with their counterparts Danube Lions ending the season with eight championships.

Anis Sajan, managing director of Danube and team owner of Danube Tigers and Danube Lions, speaking after the presentation, said: “It was a great year for both my teams and this was possible due to the hard work put in to practise which resulted in to positive results.”
