  • Virat Kohli took the fitness test with MS Dhoni.

India captain Virat Kohli took a fitness test at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru on Friday, and did not look 100 per cent after completing the test according to some reports.

Kohli had earlier been ruled out of a county stint with Surrey after suffering a neck injury in the IPL. He took the fitness test in Bengaluru, as the Afghanistan match was going on at the adjoining M Chinnaswamy Stadium, in the company of MS Dhoni.

According to news agency PTI, Kohli took the Yo-Yo fitness Test test with Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kedar Jadhav in the presence of trainer Shankar Basu and other members of the support staff.

Kohli’s test scores, which must be more than 16.1 to be allowed to play for India, were not revealed. PTI and Wisden India reported Kohli looked fine  during the test but was seen in some sort of discomfort afterwards, rubbing his shoulder and neck.

Kohli’s neck injury is serious enough to keep him out of action for a long time if it doesn’t heal properly. The Indian management will not want to take a chance on his fitness as the tour of England approaches because there is the tour of Australia later in the year followed by the World Cup in England in 2019.
