  • Testing times: The Great Dubai Pulse Ride is aiming to be bigger than the previous event in April where 800 people attended.

The fourth edition of the popular Great Dubai Pulse Ride cycling event is set to take place on November 21; part of the Dubai Sports Council’s annual Dubai Pulse activities.

With over 400 cyclists taking part in the previous edition of the race in April, organisers have added a 20km ride for women to the schedule as the event continues to grow in interest.

“The latest edition, in April, was our biggest and best yet and the addition of the women’s 20km ride is an illustration of the way the event is continuing to grow,” said Dubai Sports City President Khalid Al Zarooni.

It means the event will now feature four options for riders – a 5km family and kids ride, a 20km cross-country ride open to all, that 20km ride specifically for women and a 40km cross-country challenge.

That 40km challenge will offer prizes from The Cycle Hub, the one-stop shop for all cycling needs based at Dubai Motor City, with a Dhs5000 voucher for the winner, AED1500 for the second-placed rider and an additional Dhs1500 for the first female rider across the finish line.

People who wish to take part need to bring a bicycle and a helmet, and all participants will receive a certificate.

Additional activities include a brunch barbeque, a bouncy castle and children’s play area, face painting and a raffle draw.

Prizes worth more than Dhs10,000 are up for grabs during the day.

“We are delighted to be staging another edition of the Great Dubai Pulse Ride – Off Road and everyone here is looking forward to it very much,” said Al Zarooni.

“The latest edition, in April, was our biggest and best yet, with 400 riders and more than 800 people attending the family fun day that took place around the event, and we want to make this next one even better.

“The addition of the women’s 20km ride is an illustration of the way the event is growing and we hope it will encourage even more people to get involved.

Registration for the ride, that is set to get underway at 8am, is free and can be done in advance at http://www.thecyclehub.com or on the day from 7am.
