  • Devastating debut: Jos Buttler rode his luck but scored a fine 85 to put England in control of the third Test.

A matter of days ago, experienced English wicket-keeper Matt Prior announced his ‘indefinite’ break from cricket leaving a huge hole in an already battered English side.

Replacing a player like Prior is a tough task.

But it did not look so when young Yorkshire wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler came out to bat.

The Lancashire batsman played with a lot of confidence and gave Ian Bell the support he needed on the other end.

Yes he did get lucky, twice, but as they say, fortune favours the brave.

Considering the call to the team came as a surprise to him, he was up to the task and showed a lot of promise for the future.

The aggression helped him get to a 103-ball 85 on debut, cementing his place for the next Test, but that wasn’t all as, within minutes of his dismissal, Twitterati hailed the gutsy knock.

Interestingly, the only English keeper to have scored a hundred on debut is the person he replaced in the side, Matt Prior.

Media, former players and fans – both English and Indian- showed their appreciation for Buttler. Clearly, he was the Twitter hero of the day.
