  • It has been a frustrating time for Di Maria since moving to Old Trafford.

Angel Di Maria, Manchester United's most expensive player in history, has been reported by Spanish media as telling a friend at former club Real Madrid that he 'regrets' ever making the move to the English Premier League.

Di Maria, who cost United Dhs3.4bn (£59.7million) last summer, has struggled since returning from injury after initially making a blistering start with United following his move from the Bernabeu.

Spanish journalist Manuel ‘Manolete’ Esteban told Spanish TV show La Goleada, "Di Maria has confessed to someone at Real Madrid that he regrets joining Manchester United."

United have struggled so far this season with Louis van Gaal coming under scrutiny for his tactics and handling of players such as Di Maria and captain Wayne Rooney who have been asked to play in unfamiliar positions.

For now, Di Maria must focus on securing a Champions League spot for United but the latest claims will do little to banish rumours of the Argentine's openness to a move in the summer after just a season at United.
