  • Set to break through: Campbell is expected to get his chance in the Arsenal first-team.

Costa Rica striker Joel Campbell is finally edging towards a full-time place with Arsenal as he completes his post-World Cup holiday ahead of pre-season training.

Campbell, 22, joined Arsenal in 2011 but is yet to make his full debut and has spent the past three seasons out on loan, the first two of which – spent at Lorient and Real Beits – were due to work permit issues.

Last season, he enjoyed a stunning season with Olympiakos, helping the Greek champions retain their league title and playing a key role in their route to the last-16 of the UEFA Champions League.

However, it was at this summer's World Cup in Brazil where Campbell grabbed the attention of football fans the world over with a match-winning display against Uruguay, before helping his nation to a stunning win over Italy to secure top spot from their group.

Campbell's performances in Brazil and Greece have seemingly proved enough to convince Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger that he merits a place in his first-team squad for the upcoming season.

Last weekend, Campbell wrote on Twitter that he was ready to "fight for my dreams" as he made his way back from his home in Costa Rica to London.
