  • Set to stay: Xavi (l) has been vital to Barcelona's success during his 16 year career.

Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta has described Xavi Hernandez's decision to remain at the Camp Nou for another season as "one of the best pieces of news of the summer".

Xavi had been strongly linked with an exit from Barca following a trophy-laden career at his boyhood club where he has plyed his trade for 16 years.

Indeed, as exclusively revealed by Sport360, the Spanish World Cup winner had an offer on the table from Arabian Gulf League Fujairah FC to make a switch to the UAE.

Xavi had also been approached by Qatari club Al Arabi, with manager Dan Petrescu revealing in June that a pre-contract had been agreed between the player and the club.

However, Barcelona have let Xavi to decide his future and the 33-year-old has opted to remain with the Catalans for at least another season, which has delighted fellow midfielder Iniesta.

"He's another one of us and we are delighted about that," Iniesta said. "He's spent all his life here and means so much to the club. It would have been strange if he had left."
