  • Long term relationship: Pep Guardiola (l) and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge are set to work together for a long time to come.

Pep Guardiola has been told he has a job for life at Bayern Munich, according to the club's chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

Former Barcelona coach Guardiola led Bayern to four trophies in his first season in charge, but he has said the expectations at Bayern are such that a smaller return would not be tolerated in his second year.

That is not the case, however, after Rummenigge claimed the Catalan need not worry about his future.

"Bayern are never going to sack Pep Guardiola," he told the Welt am Sonntag newspaper. "I can even put that in writing for you."

Rummenigge expects Bayern's glorious run of results to continue unabated this season and in years to come, seeing no sign of his players being sated.

"We have two perfect years behind us, won eight titles and some of our players have even put the cherry on top with the World Cup," he added. "And now we will continue setting records by being better than we've ever been after a World Cup."

Bayern's players showed that hunger by beating Borussia Monchengladbach in a penalty shoot-out on Saturday with Robert Lewandowski on target in a game which ended 2-2 after Max Kruse netted twice for the Foals, who recovered from two goals down to force penalties.

Bayern will face Wolfsburg in the final of the pre-season tournament on Sunday, with Gladbach facing Hamburg, who lost on penalties to the Wolves.
