Diego Costa has been in unstoppable form this season, firing Chelsea to the top of the English Premier League with 17 goals.

Many predicted that it would take the Spanish, Brazilian-born striker time to adapt after his move from Atletico Madrid but he made an impact straight from the off, scoring sevens goals in his first four appearances.

As you can see from the statistics above, Costa is the EPL’s  top-scorer and this reflects on his fantasy football points tally. The Chelsea man is the leading forward on 119 points – not bad for a striker that has missed four of the twenty three matches so far.

With all this said, why would any manager ponder the option of not having the star in their team?

Here are four reasons why you should consider life without Costa, especially with your free wildcard expiring after this gameweek.

    – Suspension

The main reason why managers will want to sell Costa is because he is suspended until February 21 (Gameweek 26). That means he will be out of action for another two weeks of fixtures. That’s a long time to be losing one of your main point providers.

    – Chelsea’s fixtures (or lack of)

Chelsea are playing the League Cup final against Spurs on March 1, so Costa will be missing from the fantasy football world for further week after returning against Burnley. Chelsea have no fixture on Gameweek 27 but then their next two matches aren’t the easiest for the Blues. They have to play West Ham (a) and Southampton (h) – two teams in impressive form so far this season.

    – It could be more effective having three Chelsea players in other positions

It is vital that you have three Chelsea players in your team, because they are the best team in the league when it comes to fantasy football. Why? Because they score the most goals and keep the most clean sheets.

Here are the Chelsea stars that all managers should think of if getting rid of the Spaniard:

If you do exchange Diego Costa that gives you the option to bring in one of his Chelsea team-mates in another area.

Seeing as though midfielders score the most pointsSport360’s top tip would be to attempt to get both Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas alongside Courtois or a Chelsea defender instead of having Costa in your side.

Oscar is a cheaper alternative and is on top form at the moment and you can’t ignore the option of bringing in Kurt Zouma for 4.6m, with Jose Mourinho currently prefering him to Gary Cahill.

    – Expensive

As you all know, Costa is not cheap but he’s certainly worth the 11m if he is available. Currently the fourth most expensive striker on the market, the 26-year-old’s upcoming absence means he is definitely worth transferring for a different goal-machine. But who should you choose? Here are our five best alternatives below:

Sergio Aguero, Robin van Persie, Daniel Sturridge, Jermain Defoe, Harry Kane

Good luck with your decision managers. Hopefully this bit of advice will help you on your quest to finish at the top of your league.
