  • The men in contention for the vacant manager's role at the Bernabeu.

Carlo Ancelotti was sacked as Real Madrid manager on Monday night following a disappointing second half of the season, but who is set to replace the Italian at the Bernabeu? Here, we look at four contenders.

    – INSIDE STORY: PSG have transformed under QSI’s huge investment

    RAFA BENITEZ

According to widespread reports the former Liverpool and Chelsea coach has been earmarked by Florentino Perez despite an underwhelming season with Napoli, suffering Champions League qualification in the preliminary round against Athletic Bilbao.

Started his playing and coaching careers at Madrid and understood to be very keen on the job.

    Our verdict: 7/10

    JURGEN KLOPP

The charismatic German coach is available on the managerial market after quitting Borussia Dortmund.

Earned great respect at the Bernabeu for his team’s Champions League victories over Madrid, but is thought to favour a long-term project for his next job and is hindered by his lack of Spanish.

    Our verdict: 2/10

    ZINEDINE ZIDANE

Perez is a huge admirer following his playing days at the club and the president is keen to launch Zidane’s coaching career.

He appointed Zidane to coach the club’s B team but the former French star’s first season was not a great success and now is probably too early for the step up.

    Our verdict: 2/10

    UNAI EMERY

Former Valencia boss who has re-established his reputation with an excellent spell at Sevilla, guiding the Andalusian club to last season’s Europa League title and this season’s final, as well as fifth in La Liga.

An unlikely option but one who has emerged with greater force in recent days.

    Our verdict: 2/10
