Pro League reveal shortlists for end-of-season awards

  • The Etisalat Pro League has announced the nominations for their end-of-season awards, with shortlists in five separate categories.

    Voted for by media institutions as well as the coaches, captains and team managers of each Pro League club, the categories are Emirati Player of the Year, International Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Young Player of the Year, and Goalkeeper of the Year.

    With the voting now complete, the winners of each category will be announced on May 26 at the ADNEC Exhibition Centre in Abu Dhabi and broadcast live on Abu Dhabi Sports Channel.

    In what is sure to be a close contest, the five players battling it out for Emirati Player of the Year are Al Jazira forward Ali Mabkhout, Bani Yas midfielder Amer Abdulrahman, Al Ahli winger Ismael Al Hammadi, Al Nasr midfielder Habib Al Fardan, and Al Ain playmaker Omar Abdulrahman.

    Another closely-fought category will be the International Player of the Year as Al Ain striker and Pro League top scorer Asamoah Gyan, Al Ahli captain Grafite, Bani Yas’ on-loan forward Mohamed Abou-Treika, Ajman striker Boris Kabi, and Al Shabab striker Ciel battle it out for the award.

    The Coach of the Year shortlist is made up of Abdulwahab Abdulkader of Ajman, Quique Flores of Al Ahli, Cosmin Olaroiu of Al Ain, Dr. Abdullah Misfer of Dibba Al Fujairah, and Marcos Paqueta of Al Shabab.

    Meanwhile, the awards ceremony will celebrate the Pro League’s future talent with the Young Player of the Year category. Nominated for this award are Al Wasl duo Khalifa Abdulla Lahej and Fahad Hadeed, Al Ain sensation Yousef Ahmed, Al Jazira’s Ali Ibrahim, Al Nasr starlet Ahmed Shambieh, Al Wahda’s Badr Al Harthi, and Alo Yaqoub of Al Shaab.

    Finally, in the Goalkeeper of the Year Award, Ali Khaseif of Al Jazira, Majed Naser of Al Ahli, Khalid Al Sinani of Al Dhafra, Dawoud Sulaiman of Al Ain, and Ahmed Shambieh of Al Nasr will all vy for the honour.
