Five derby power shifts in British football

  • For the first time in 22 seasons, Tottenham Hotspur will finish above Arsenal in the Premier League, thereby cancelling St. Totteringham’s Day.

    It’s all the more significant because it points to a shift in power in the North London rivalry. Arsenal have dominated for years but Spurs have threatened to take over for some time now.

    At the moment, Tottenham can justify their claim to be recognised as the number one team in North London.

    Similarly, given their success in recent years coupled with Manchester United’s struggles since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, Manchester City can also claim superiority in their locality.
