  • Despite a recent wobble for Liverpool, who have failed to win a game since beating Arsenal 4-0 before the international break, Sadio Mane has full faith in the team’s ability to turn it around.

“These kinds of results [no win in four games since the Arsenal victory] can happen in any team, but we will do our best to change the situation,” Mane told ESPN.

The manner in which Liverpool have dropped points in recent games has put the team’s title credentials in doubt, but the Senegalese winger says it’s too soon to judge the team one way or the other in any case.

“Honestly, it is too early to talk about the title. We are not focused on other teams, just on ourselves, and we know we can beat any team in the league,” he added.

“We will try to take it game by game, and why not win it at the end?”

Although the Reds have suffered a dip in form, one positive has been the reintegration of playmaker Philippe Coutinho after he missed all of the team’s August games – ostensibly with an injury, but largely a by-product of Coutinho trying to force through a move to Barcelona, and Mane is pleased that the Brazilian is still at the club.

“It was not only important to me, but also to the whole club, that Phil is staying here,” Mane explained. “He is one of our best players, an important player, and we are happy to see him stay with us.”

Mane has missed three of Liverpool’s four games due to a three-match ban he received for his sending off in Liverpool’s 5-0 loss to Manchester City, but he featured in the Reds’ return to the Champions League, against Sevilla at Anfield earlier this month.

Liverpool were left disappointed with the result, a 2-2 draw, but Mane relished the experience of playing in Europe’s premier club competition.

“It is very exciting to be playing in the Champions League because it is the dream of every player in the world.

“It’s a big competition in Europe and we have played one game already against Sevilla and did not get the result we wanted.”

Mane is looking forward to Liverpool’s next Champions League game, an away tie against Spartak Moscow next week.

“Now we have to go to Spartak, but why not go there and win? I know they are a good team. They would not be in the Champions League if they weren’t.”
