  • Want some Mo? Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah returned to haunt former club Chelsea but Liverpool were denied a hugely significant victory as Willian conjured an equaliser out of nothing at Anfield.

Salah was tried, tested and discarded with indecent haste at Stamford Bridge but has been a revelation on Merseyside, topping the Premier League scoring charts with 10 goals in 13 games after stabbing home from close range in the 65th minute.

Yet Jurgen Klopp‘s side were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw when substitute Willian floated the ball over Simon Mignolet in what could have been either a show of outrageous skill or sensational fortune.

Here, we run the rule over the performances of the Liverpool players.

    LIVERPOOL

Mignolet 6 – Equaliser was very harsh because his positioning was sound and the fluke nature of Willian’s cross caught him offguard.

Gomez  8 – A performance hallmarked by composure and maturity when there was chaos beside him. Deeply impressive and looked even better at centre-half when the Reds went 3-4-3.

Matip 6 – Crying out for more assurance beside him at the heart of the defence but the Cameroonian was solid.

Klavan 5 – Two clearances smashed into the back of Matip just about sum up a poor display.

Moreno 6 – Was successful with eight of his 10 tackles and save for a momentary lapse in the box late on, he managed to bounce back after the Sevilla disaster.

Henderson 5 – Lacked the leadership to really wrestle control away from Chelsea and his touch is too poor for a player who operates in such a crucial role.

Milner 5 – Another figure who was carried in this game with his passing way off the mark at times.

Coutinho 6 – Looked really quiet in comparison to Salah and Hazard but was dangerous when he picked the ball up in promising positions.

Oxlade-Chamberlain 7 – From a defensive standpoint he was full of energy and he gave the Reds a little edge when going forward.

Salah 8 – On current form, he’s in the top three best players in the Premier League right now. His direct mentality tormented Chelsea’s defence and for a man who can’t finish, he took his goal sweetly.

Sturridge 6 – A surprise inclusion in the starting XI and he made some intelligent runs but just wasn’t found often enough.

    SUBSTITUTES

Wijnaldum 6 – Introduced for Sturridge just past the hour and he gave Liverpool’s attack some injection.
