  • Alvaro Negredo could be on his way to the UAE.

Former Manchester City and Valencia striker Alvaro Negredo could be plying his trade in the UAE after reports claimed he is on the verge of signing for Al Nasr.

The 33-year-old has enjoyed a strong start for Besiktas this season, scoring three goals in five appearances so far. However, the Spaniard is closing in on a switch to the Blue Wave with reports suggesting a deal could be completed in a matter of days.

Ivan Jovanovic’s side are reportedly set to offer Negredo a staggering €7million per year – a fee which would see him receive a pay rise on the €4.3m he currently earns with the Black Eagles.

The transfer window for AGL clubs shut on October 2 but if Negredo does put pen to paper with Nasr, the Arabian Gulf League outfit would have to offload one of their four foreign players to make way for the forward.

Currently, Lebanese defender Joan Oumari and new arrivals – Brazilian duo Iury de Castiliho and Samuel Rosa, as well as French midfielder Yohan Cabaye – make up the foreign quartet.

His arrival would bolster Nasr’s attack as they look to make a big impact after a productive transfer window in which seven players were signed.

The much-travelled player, who was part of Manchester City’s Premier League 2013-14 title winning squad and counts Middlesbrough and Sevilla among his ex-clubs, enjoyed his most prolific spell with the latter club, scoring 70 goals in 139 appearances. He was also part of Spain’s triumphant Euro 2012 squad.
