  • Juventus are targeting Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie and Liverpool forward Luis Suarez, according to reports from Italy.

The Turin club are said to splash the cash this summer in order to make them the force of old, with a world-class striker to lead the line a central priority. Juventus president Andrea Agnelli is said to be desparate to re-establish his club as a European powerhouse and has set aside a massive warchest for the summer transfer window.

Their long list of forwards has set records for impotence this season, with one of the lowest goals to shots ratios in Serie A. To date, Alessandro Matri is the only player to barely reach double-figures, bagging 10 in the league.

According to La Stampa,Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain is their number one choice, but if the Spanish club play hard to get, the Italians will focus their attentions on Van Persie and Suarez.

The Dutch hitman is set to become the most sought after player in the transfer market this summer as he continues to stall contract talks, with only a year left on his current deal after the end of this season.

Manchester City are also said to be preparing a bid for Van Persie, and have apparently already tabled a club record £210,000 per week pay-deal in order to lure him to Eastlands, which is more than double is current salary.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, though, is hoping to not make the same mistake as he did with Samir Nasri last summer. “We will not lose anybody to Manchester City, or to anybody else, because we want to keep our players,” said Wenger this past week. “We want to keep Robin Van Persie, that is clear, we will do everything possible to extend his contract, that is clear, and apart from that, I can only let people talk.”

Qualification for next season’s Champions League is key for the London club to keep hold of their star striker.

Fortunately for Arsenal, Van Persie has been in prolific form and is currently top scorer in the Premier League with 26 goals. Unfortunately for Arsenal, the number of suitors for the 29-year old forward also seems to be increasing every time he scores.
