  • Michael Laudrup has refused to give up hope on Manchester City-target Scott Sinclair remaining at the Liberty Stadium beyond the end of the transfer window.

Sinclair, 23, was a notable absentee from Swansea’s squad yesterday as the Welsh side claimed an impressive 3-0 win over Premier League new boys West Ham.

Sinclair’s omission came just days after Swansea’s first-team coach Alan Curtis suggested the former Chelsea winger was close to joining City after rejecting the offer of a new deal.

“He’s not really interested in signing a new contract and I think Man City have made a bid,” Curtis said. “It’s just a matter of time before it happens and it’s good for both parties.”

However, Laudrup insists nothing has been agreed despite reports from Wales despite that Sinclair was on his way to the Etihad Stadium to replace Sunderland-bound Adam Johnson in a £6million fee.

“We spoke and thought it was better for him to just stay out of this game and then we will see what happens in the next five days,” Laudrup said.

“And of course if he is here on Friday evening he is back in the squad. No problem because he is a great player and an important player for this club as well.

“In this moment, as far as I know, Scott is still here but you know as well as I do that things can change and we will just have to see what happens.”

Having conceded that Sinclair could yet leave the club, Laudrup is hopeful of a quick resolution as he plots his own moves in the transfer market with Blackpool’s Tom Ince and Valencia’s Pablo Hernandez both featuring high on his wanted list.

“I really hope if Scott leaves that it will be very soon,” he said. “The sooner the better because that means that we have more time to replace him.

“We have to know that in this moment we only have three wide players, it is the only position where we have less than two per position and if Scott goes we only have two wide players. The two that played today and that is obviously not enough.”
