  • Manchester United chief executive David Gill has warned the club’s fans not to expect any last minute arrivals at Old Trafford in the coming hours after Dimitar Berbatov completed his move to Fulham.

United have been busy in the transfer market this summer bringing in five new faces including Robin van Persie who sealed his £24million switch from Arsenal.

Fans, though, were still hopeful Sir Alex Ferguson would add a new midfielder to his squad before tonight’s 11pm GMT deadline with many seeing that area as United’s Achilles heel.

However, Gill insists there will be no more arrivals and is confident United have a squad well-equipped to challenge for honours on all fronts this season.

“I don’t think there will be any more new arrivals, no,” said Gill. “We have looked at various players and are confident in the current squad we have at our disposal. We will progress with what we have now and Sir Alex will look to get the best out of them over the next few months.”

“We are very happy with the squad we have – we made some great additions this summer and everyone is pointing out the young and vibrant look around our team. The most important person at the club is Sir Alex, though, and we look forward to a great season under him.

Meanwhile, one man on his way out of the club is Dimiter Berbatov after he completed his move to Fulham for a fee believed to be in the region of £5m.

The 31-year-old, United’s record signing when he joined from Tottenham in 2008, has signed a two-year deal at Craven Cottage having rejected offers from Juventus and Fiorentina.

Spurs were also interested in re-signing the Bulgarian, but Berbatov has opted to link-up again with Martin Jol, the man who took him England back in 2006.

“I’m delighted to have signed for Fulham and I look forward to playing under Martin Jol once again,” Berbatov told Fulham’s official website.

“As soon as I was aware of Fulham’s interest my decision to join was an easy one to make. I’m impressed with the set up here and the people have made me feel welcome. There is a close and personal feel around the club and I can’t wait to get started.”

Gill-meanwhile, paid his own tribute to Berbatov after bringing an end to his four-year stay with United. “Berbatov is a great professional,” he said. “Not an ounce of trouble in four years. A real role model. We wish him the best.”

Berbatov, who will wear the No9 shirt at Fulham, scored 56 goals in 149 United appearances, helping the club to two league titles, while he was also the Premier League’s top-joint scorer in the 2010-11 campaign.
