Over the years, we have seen some really desperate attempts by players to waste time when their team is leading and the final whistle near.
From faking an injury to not taking a throw-in as quick as they should, players have tried anything and everything to consume time.
But during an Africa Cup of Nations encounter between Senegal and Algeria, Khadim N’Diaye, Senegal’s goalkeeper was involved in possibly the most weird act of time wasting.
The incident was even more difficult to absorb bearing in mind the match had no relevance, Algeria already out of the tournament and Senegal guaranteed a place in the next round.
As you can see below, this is truly bizarre.
Is this the most ridiculous act of time wasting you have ever seen or can you top N’Diaye’s efforts?
Tunisia secured their place in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals as Group B runners-up with an easy 4-2 win over hapless Zimbabwe.
Naim Sliti, Youssef Msakni and Taha Khenissi all scored first-half goals and Khazri slotted home a penalty on the stroke of the interval, restoring his side’s three-goal advantage after Tendai Ndoro had reduced the arrears.
Khazri showed his Premier League class throughout and the Black Cats will be hoping the 25-year-old will return to England in fine form as David Moyes’ side battle relegation.
Tunisia face Burkina Faso in Gabon’s capital Libreville on Saturday evening.
What did you make of the action?
Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang blew a glorious chance as a 0-0 draw with Cameroon saw host nation Gabon eliminated from AFCON 2017.
Denis Bouanga’s low cross found the striker at the far post but with the goal gaping he somehow managed to prod it wide.
The striker has scored 20 times for Dortmund this season in 22 appearances and leads the race for the Golden Boot in the Bundesliga with 16 goals, two ahead of Robert Lewandowski.
However, he couldn’t apply the finishing touch this time around. The good news is, he gets to return to Dortmund early where he’ll see many more opportunities come his way.
