  • Ivan Hasek has replaced Diego Maradona at Fujairah.

Struggling Fujairah have sacked head coach Ivan Hasek after the club slipped into the relegation zone following Friday night’s 3-1 defeat at Sharjah.

The loss was an 11th of the season for Hasek’s men and the Czech becomes the sixth Arabian Gulf League manager to be dismissed in 2015-16.

The club officially announced the decision on their Twitter feed on Sunday, adding that the former Czech Republic, Al Ahli and Al Wasl coach will be replaced by assistant, Stefan Ahmed.

The tweet read: “Official: Ivan Hasek dismissal of the first team and the appointment of assistant coach Stefan Ahmed to temporarily lead the team.”

It’s been a largely miserable season for Fujairah, who failed to really recover following an opening day 8-1 thrashing at the hands of Hasek’s former side, Ahli, who he led to the AGL title in 2009.

And, following a result that leaves them in the second relegation spot, the club had had enough.

With rock-bottom Al Shaab already doomed to life in Division 1 Group A, Fujairah, on 19 points, are likely to be scrapping with Emirates Club (21), Dibba Al Fujairah (22), Al Dhafra (23) and Sharjah (24) for the last relegation spot.

Lebanon striker Hassan Matouk had equalised for Fujairah just after the hour following Abdullah Salem’s first-half opener for the King, but a late brace from Brazilian striker Wanderley sealed the points for the hosts, and seemingly Hasek’s fate.
