  • Bani Yas have hired Dr Abdullah Misfer as their new boss.

Bani Yas have raided the ranks of the UAE Football Association to name Dr Abdullah Misfer as their permanent replacement for sacked coach Luis Garcia.

Misfer, 54, was unveiled on an undisclosed deal by the eighth-placed Arabian Gulf League-side after he ended a two-year spell with the Whites’ Under-19 and Under-23 sides.

The announcement sees the ex-Dibba Al Fujairah and Al Dhafra boss becomes the third Emirati currently in charge of a top-flight outfit.

“Bani Yas assigns Dr Abdullah Misfer as head coach, in succession to Luis Garcia,” a statement read.

“The contract was signed by board director Mr Mosallam Al Kuthairi and he wished best of luck to the new coach.”

Former Levante and Getafe supremo Garcia was dismissed last week after a second inconsistent season left the talented Sky Blues with just three wins from their last 10 top-flight matches.

His replacement chose to step down from Dhafra after a bravura 2013/14 which saw the unfancied club finish eighth in the AGL and reach the semi-finals of both domestic cup competitions.

Dr Misfer – who will be assisted by Salem Al Orafi and Noureddine Obaidi – most recently failed to qualify the UAE for the Rio 2016 Olympics, losing in the quarter-finals of the AFC U-23 Championship.

He joins countrymen Eid Baroot of Fujairah and and Abdulaziz Al Anbari of Sharjah in control of an AGL team.
