  • Goal king: Al Ain striker Gyan scored a record 31 league goals last season.

Al Ain are determined to hold on to their star striker Asamoah Gyan after the club revealed they have received numerous offers courting the Ghanaian goal machine.

Premier League side West Ham, are one of the teams chasing Gyan, after manager Sam Allardyce admitted he has made an enquiry into the possibility of signing the ex-Sunderland forward in January to alleviate the team’s striking woes that have resulted from Andy Carroll’s long-term injury.

Gyan, who last summer signed a four-year contract with Al Ain, has helped guide the Boss to back-to-back league titles and has won the Golden Boot in each of the last two seasons.

And while the 28-year-old may be tempted to spend half a season in Europe’s most competitive league to prepare for the World Cup in Brazil the best way possible, Al Ain have said they are hoping to keep Gyan in their ranks.

“Al Ain officially received offers from some clubs and unofficial ones also to buy the player, but we want the player to stay, so do the club administration and the coaching staff.

“The fans have also developed a strong connection with the player, who has become well known for honoring the club by playing a major part in the achievements made by Al Ain in the past two seasons,” said Al Ain team supervisor, Mohammed Obeid Hammad.

The league champions have had a rocky start to their current season and lie sixth in the table, despite the 14 goals Gyan has scored in 11 league matches.

Asked about the possibility of releasing Gyan if he receives a tempting offer, Hammad added: “The decision of signing or renewing or even releasing any player is taken by a special committee in accordance with the player’s wishes.

“We are living in a professional era where clubs take decisions that ultimately benefit them and we want to hold on to the player and we wish him to continue with Al Ain. He has a place in Al Ain fans’ hearts and plays an integral role in the team.”
