  • No drama: Misfer has played down Zenga's criticism of Dhafra's style.

Al Dhafra coach Dr Abdullah Misfer refused to be drawn into a war of words with Walter Zenga on Wednesday as he claimed his side had become one of the best possession teams in the country.

Jazira coach Zenga accused Dhafra of using “smart” tactics during their meeting last weekend to get his players booked.

He also suggested Misfer should have received the same one-game ban that was given to Khalid Sabeal for their coming together after the final whistle.

“I don’t want to go down to this way of thinking,” Misfer said. “If you look at statistics and analyse the match you will see that we controlled the match against Jazira.

“At one time we reached 25 passes in one move and that means we were in control. We also created a lot of chances to score, they did not. “I think Al Jazira are not the Al Jazira of last year, they lost a lot of things which they had before.”

Dhafra, who face Al Wasl on Friday, are currently on a seven-game unbeaten run, although they have drawn their last four games.

Misfer added: “Before the season started everyone looked at Al Dhafra as a small team. In time we have proved to everybody we have improved and have changed a lot.

“We have become one of the best teams at keeping ball possession in the league.”

Elsewhere on Friday, Al Shaab host Emirates looking for a vital win in the battle against relegation.
