  • Being the bigger person: Danilo Asprilla (l) was lenient on Ali Saqr.

Winger Danilo Asprilla has generously forgiven Emirates Club goalkeeper Ali Saqr despite an appalling violent assault committed on him during Al Ain’s 5-2 victory.

Saqr, 27, is sure to receive a lengthy suspension after he spectacularly lost his cool on Thursday as the Falcons slipped towards a second-successive heavy defeat in the nascent Arabian Gulf League.

He first elbowed the Colombian wide man once he tried to dribble past him, reacting with a vicious stamp on his prone opponent when understandably issued a red card.

To the credit of Asprilla, 27, he reacted magnanimously after the match by posting a picture of the pair together on Instagram with a conciliatory message.

“We all make mistakes,” he said. “Peace… Don’t worry bro.”

This assault distracted from under-pressure striker Douglas’ hat-trick as the Boss geared up for Tuesday’s AFC Champions League semi-final, first leg against Qatar’s El Jaish.

Meanwhile, boss Cosmin Olaroiu was relieved to come through a challenging Dubai derby at Al Nasr with three point thanks to Lima’s predatory goal.

The 33-year-old converted an excellent cross from strike partner Ahmed Khalil to make it two wins from two for the champions, during a match which finished 10 v 10 after Masoud Sulaiman and Abdulaziz Haikal’s dismissals.

“We expected a difficult game as Al Nasr are very strong,” Olaroiu said. “We controlled the first half and didn’t give them a chance but in the second we pulled back.”

In Friday’s games, Sharjah put new boys Hatta to the sword during a 4-0 thrashing. Poland playmaker Adrian Mierzejewski struck spectacularly and midfielder Song Jin-hyung scored on debut against the Tornado, who expect to imminently seal the arrival of Fluminense striker Samuel Rosa Goncalves on loan in place of Issiaka Ouedraogo.

Foreign recruits Tomas De Vincenti and Ruud Boymans, meanwhile, got off the mark in the top flight for Al Shabab as their goals overcame Bakary Kone’s retort to sink yo-yo club Ittihad Kalba.
